Supply Chain is constrained more so in 2021 than 2020 in my experiences. Operations is tired but pushing through as they are bombarded with virtual meetings, high demand and raw ingredient issues. Quality is a real task when business is constrained and businesses are short handed. The lack of qualified and willing laborers has caused companies to get creative with their labor forces, shifts and temporary worker policies. CV19 testing and vaccine mandating is a hot topic that many companies are slow to address. Meanwhile workers struggle to find balance with home and work life. Nothing new to report but things are ever changing. Inflation and increasing wages have made food more expensive. Plant based foods are trending as are consumers opinions on sustainability and health. What will 2022 hold?

Food manufacturers can put GMO labels on their products in 2020. Large manufacturers need to disclose detectable bioengineered ingredients by 2022, and attorneys and analysts think many will wait until the last minute. Many companies have already started labeling their products and support this national labeling standard. The debate over GM labeling, at both the federal and state levels, has historically focused on five issues: (1) public opinion; (2) the legality of labeling requirements; (3) the risks and benefits of GM foods; (4) the costs and burdens of GM labeling; and (5) consumer choice. |
